# Supernova 5.8

With the release of WordPress 5.9 a few weeks ago, our Supernova theme has been improved further to take advantage of the new APIs introduced in WordPress and the upcoming FSE features. Currently, Supernova does not use a `theme.json` file, as the API is not fully standardised yet, but a beta version will be released in the coming weeks.

The latest version – ⁣`5.8`⁣ – cleans up the codebase and removes several unused shortcodes. We are slowly migrating towards full integration with third-party form plugins, such as Gravity Forms, Jetpack forms and Contact Form 7.

Other improvements include a fully refactored codebase, in order to adhere to [WordPress’ Coding Standards](https://developer.wordpress.org/coding-standards/wordpress-coding-standards/):

> *Coding standards help avoid common coding errors, improve the readability of code, and simplify modification. They ensure that files within the project appear as if they were created by a single person. Following the standards means anyone will be able to understand a section of code and modify it, if needed, without regard to when it was written or by whom.*

An updated Supernova changelog is now available, and a series of how-to’s and tutorials are being published right now.

Another upcoming project is a set of block patterns, available to all Supernova users. As WordPress gets more FSE-related releases, we are going to implement new features, new **post templates**, **page templates** and **block patterns** into Supernova.

Stay tuned for our monthly theme releases and watch this space for some cool upcoming features!
