It is crucial for estate agents to know what people are actually looking for when it comes to choosing the perfect home, especially in these times of crisis. While opinions and tastes may differ among different people, there are still some things which appear quite often on priority lists, as a recent survey conducted by Banner Homes revealed. To sum it up in one sentence: ” The perfect property is two miles from a supermarket, ten miles from the beach and walking distance to the pub”. Sounds a bit too good to be true? Yes but there are also many more down-to-earth aspects which are considered as important by a high percentage of the interviewees.
First of all, the new home should be located in a friendly community with helpful 
neighbours you can talk to and who look after your kids if the babysitter has cancelled last minute. Most people agree about the importance of a pleasant neighbourhood, even though a strong sense of community has become a rarity nowadays.
Furthermore, the ideal home should not be too far away from the countryside so you can find some relaxing moments at the weekend, and from a local shop where you can do your grocery shopping. To be more precise, a corner shop within a distance of 1 mile and a supermarket within 2 miles would be perfection. Scenic walks are also valued a lot among those surveyed.
Moving on, off-road parking, a spare room and an en-suite bathroom, as well as a well-kept garden also rank high on the priority list. These days a speedy Internet connection has become a necessity rather than a nice-to-have.
In general, you can tell that people care the most about all the little things when looking for their perfect home. An open fire, a comfortable sofa and bed and having a personal connection to the local pub lord also contribute tremendously to happiness. While neighbours form an integral part, privacy should not be neglected.
